Eric Hart was born 1979 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in central Pennsylvania surrounded by art, with parents who work as potters. Though he has taken no formal classes in photography, he draws on his experience working on student films at Bucknell University and his extensive theatre design experience to inform his picture taking. He brings a theatrical eye to his work with composition, light, and color, as well as an endless pursuit of technical competence and technique.
The life of a theatre artisan means a life of traveling around the country and working with artisans of all types. Eric has turned his camera onto this life. His landscapes seek to show an openness, as well as capture the breadth and depth of the American environment present in the small corners he has lived in. He also documents his fellow artisans, showcasing the often-surreal moments where art blends into work and blends into life. Eric's photographs dance that fine line between photojournalism and the vernacular.

His photographs offer a satisfying behind-the-scenes sneak peak into the world of theater, but with a heightened sense of artistry in mind. Looking at his photos from the Santa Fe Opera, they seem to mystify the life of a theater artisan, whilst (like any good theater artist, director, or designer) creating a captivating story simply through the use of spatial relationships and lighting.
