I prefer portraits of people in their natural environments. Though often posed, my portraits are never staged; rather, I make them when the opportunity presents itself. Setting up a portrait session ahead of time introduces an artificiality which I try to avoid, instead drawing my inspiration from the wealth of family photo albums which became so prevalent with the ubiquitousness of cameras. By hiding the purposefulness of my photography behind the veneer of casual amateurness, I hope to give my portraits a sense that they were born directly from the moment, rather than created specifically by a single artist.
